If you are going to Madison Mud,
please park in the parking lot shared with Chipotle, Tinos Pizza, and Sportscare. There is no fee, and you will not be towed if you are there more than 2 hours. If you are going to Mendham Mud, you can park for free in the municipal parking lot across the street (with a driveway between Olivera Hair and the Windswept Boutique.)
If you are going to Montclair Mud,
There is no official parking. We recommend the South Fullerton Lot. Please use the entrance ON South Fullerton (across from Classic Cut and Shave) We will warn you, if there is an event at the Welmont parking will be more expensive. So other lots may be less expensive on those evenings. -
Clothes and Jewelry
Clay does come out of your clothing, but we do suggest you dress for mess. If you're using the wheel, avoid long necklaces and strings on your clothing. Please also leave all of your valuables at home! We are not responsible for lost items, and rings, bracelets and watches will get in the way!Nails and Hair
Long Nails will hinder your success! Please consider shortening them before your visits (especially for the wheel.) If you have long hair, please wear it pulled back .What to Bring
You don't need to bring anything related to the clay. Please feel free to bring snacks and alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. We provide cups and bottle openers, and each studio has a water cooler. -
Our studios have limited space, so projects not picked within 3 months after bagging will be recycled. You will not receive a phone call when projects are ready, so please make a note in your calendar.
Has it been over 5 weeks, and you don't remember when you were supposed to come? Drop by and we can take a look! -
Madison and Montclair have accessible entrances and bathrooms. Mendham is an old building, and we are working on trying to make it more accessible. It has two stairs at the entrance and two stairs to the bathroom.
The wheels are waist high, and the handbuilding tables are either bar height tables and stools, or shorter tables and stools. If you have specific requirements, please give us a call to see how we can best accommodate you.

A handbuilt piece begins with a ball of clay. You will receive instructions on pinching, coils, textures and scoring and slipping. Then you can make the pinch pot into whatever you want (mugs, bowls, flower pots, sculptures, anything you can think of!)
Feeling stressed? Check out our Pinterest Page for some handbuilding ideas.
A wheel thrown piece will become a cylinder approximately 3 or 4 inches tall. You can use it as a cup, a succulent planter, a container for keys/spare change, an amazing handmade present, or anything else you want!
Please note that projects shrink in the kiln, and not every piece is completely successful. Firing, clay, and glazes are all full of variables, but the experience is what matters!

You need to be in 7th Grade or older to use the wheel. For Summer Camp, you can be going into the 7th Grade in the Fall.
We do not offer walk in wheel throwing. We have 8 Week Classes, week-long Summer Camps, or private claydates (birthday parties, scout events, or adult private claydates that include teens who are old enough.) -
Kids 2nd Grade and older can do 8 week kids classes, camps, kids claydates, weekend workshops, and school’s out clay days.
Kids who are 5 or 6 can do a handbuilding session if their adult mostly does the project for them. They are too young for 8 week classes, camps, or parties.
Kids younger than 5 are not able to do the activity. If they are there with a sibling for a handbuilding session with an adult, we can provide a piece of clay for them to smush around a little.
-
After the first two weeks, you can make up classes on a different class day. You must make up all classes some time within the 8 week session (unused classes do not carry over.)
(If you’ll need to make up 3 or more classes out of 8, please consider waiting until the next session.)
-
We offer firing services if you know exactly what brand and number clay you have. (There are different kinds of clay, and if you don’t know what it is, it could melt on our shelves!)
-
Mud Clay Studio is a creative space, offering classes and one time events, and we do not sell pottery supplies.
